E-Learning on Akashic University

Akashic University offers a variety of online learning opportunities to inspire your lifelong learning for personal and professional growth. This glossary explains the various courses, programs and products available through Akashic University.

What Is An Online Course?

Akashic University offers a variety of online courses. A semester-length course is similar to a university-level class offered on a college campus, but takes place entirely online. You will interact with your instructor and other classmates online and submit assignments via email. You may be able to access tests online with a password.

Some semester-length courses have fixed start and end dates, while others are open for enrollment at any time. In a standard semester-length course you'll spend 5-10 hours per week on coursework; courses with heavy reading or writing components may require more of your time. Some courses have a more structured curriculum, while others are more self-paced and allow you up to 6-12 months to complete the coursework. Time management is an essential skill in successfully completing an online course, so choose a course that best fits your schedule

Short e-Course [info]
Short e-Courses are self-paced and can be completed in 4 weeks or less. These educational experiences may include several lesson units, streaming video or audio lectures, and assessments of the material covered in the course. Many short courses also have class discussion boards that are moderated by an instructor or teaching assistant. You cannot receive college credit for these short courses, but you will gain knowledge in a fun learning environment.

Free Seminars [info]
Free seminars are 1-2 hour interactive learning experiences, designed by Akashic University. Our first series is our one hour "Meet and Greet" the Akashic Instructors. They are every Saturday at 1PM Eastern time. To attend, simply send us an email with your name to be included in the "telephone conference chat". This is a great way to meet our distinguished faculty and to learn more about distance learning on AkashicUniversity.com Additional Free Seminars are offered to our Akashic members who wish to learn about a specific subject and become familiar with online learning. Free seminars usually assume only general knowledge of the subject matter, are unmoderated, and include the option of submitting a brief self-evaluation exercise at the end of the seminar.

How Do I Communicate with the Instructor? [info]
Professors, instructors and teaching assistants are usually available via email, live chat, threaded discussion boards, and/or phone to answer your questions. Some courses offer virtual office hours with teachers/professors at allotted times, using live chat. The level of interaction depends upon the course provider and the instructor.

What is the average length of an online course? How much time will I spend per week in an online course?
Akashic online courses vary in length, from a couple of hours to semester-length. Many courses have a more structured curriculum, while others are more self-paced and allow you up to 6-12 months to complete the coursework. You'll move through the shorter course material at your own pace, on your own schedule. In a standard semester-length course, you'll spend 5-10 hours per week on coursework. Please explore the individual course description for specific details.

Certificate Program [info]

Certificate programs can help you improve your depth of knowledge or skills in a particular discipline and develop new skills or pursue a personal interest. Upon satisfactory completion of the courses, you will receive a certificate from Akashic University. Unlike the astrology program, there is usually no admissions process or prerequisites to enroll.
